Foundation Notes — College of Nursing
This academic year started with numerous events at the MSU - Bozeman College of Nursing. Those events included its 65th anniversary celebration, announcement of a partnership in the Flathead Valley, a revised undergraduate curriculum, the development of a new graduate program option leading to clinical nurse specialist (CNS) certification in one of two focus areas, the addition of new faculty and staff, and continued efforts to meet the challenges and needs of the nursing profession.
The College of Nursing celebrated 65 years of baccalaureate nursing education and 45 years of graduate nursing education with a formal program in which Dean Lea Acord, Associate Dean Gretchen McNeely and MSU President Geoffrey Gamble addressed alums and friends from all over the country who traveled to Bozeman the weekend of October 4 to recognize this milestone and attend an open house hosted by Dean Acord.
To address the nursing shortage in Montana and the region, the college is increasing enrollments, offering all courses at upper-division campuses and adding upper-division level courses to the Bozeman campus. On October 1, the college announced a partnership with Flathead Valley Community College, the Kalispell Regional Medical Center and North Valley Hospital to assist interested place-bound students in pursuing their bachelor degrees in nursing. In January, eight students in the Flathead Valley will begin their junior and senior upper division courses through distance delivery from Missoula to Kalispell.
