Class Notes 1980s
Brad Gutcher, '80 BuFi, Powell, Ohio, was recently promoted to captain in the U.S. Naval Reserves. Brad and his family reside in Powell where he works for Nationwide Insurance as a director of performance improvement.
Michael Hagener, '81 Ag RSci, Helena, was appointed director of Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks by Gov. Judy Martz in January 2000.
David Shropshire, '81 I&ME, Idaho Falls, Idaho, is serving on the governor's Carbon Sequestration Advisory Committee.
R. Scott Woodhead, '82 Hort, Dickinson, N.D., has been hired as director of membership for the Golf Course Superintendents' Association of America (GCSAA).
Carla Magenheimer, '82 PE, Alexandria, Egypt, after teaching in Europe for the past five years, moved in August to teach at the Schutz American School. She can be reached at cmagenheimer@yahoo.com.
Brian Foley, '82 Micro, Los Alamos, N.M., obtained his doctorate in molecular genetics from the University of Vermont in 1995. He is now employed in the HIV/AIDS Sequence and Immunology databases at Los Alamos National Lab (LANL) in New Mexico and has been a co-author of papers in "Science" and other journals, on potential vaccine designs for HIV. A July news release from LANL (www.lanl.gov/worldview/news/releases/archive/02-076.html) reports on his most recent publication. Brian married Phyllis (Flaugh), '85 ML, in 1985, and they have adopted twin daughters, Madison and Sierra, born in January 1998.
Julie (Gossack) Jackson, '82 Bus, was recently promoted to market president at U.S. Bank in Bozeman. She has worked in Bozeman 11 years as a commercial lender, and most recently as senior commercial lender. During her 20-year career with U.S. Bank, she has worked in numerous other markets throughout Montana in commercial lending and business banking areas.
Mike Merwin, '84 ME, Hoosick Falls, N.Y., earned his MBA from Regis University and recently took over as chief of staff for Commander, Naval Reserve Readiness Command Northeast, Newport, R.I. He has been involved in mobilizing over 1,000 naval reservists from the New England area in support of operations Noble Eagle and Enduring Freedom. He and wife Margaret, had a daughter, Stephanie Anne, born on Memorial Day 2000. She joined sister Samantha, age 10, and brother Michael, age 8.
Mark Reinsel, '85 ChE, '95 PhD, Helena, started his own consulting firm, Apex Engineering, in March, specializing in industrial wastewater treatment. "I love setting my own hours and starting my own business in Montana...I just hope I can make a living at it!" Mark lives with wife Lori and stepsons Rayn, 13 and Matt, 12.
Frances (Tully) Eisenman, '85 Music, Federal Way, Wash., married Dan Eisenman, '85 Spcm, one week after graduation and just celebrated 17 years of married bliss in the Pacific Northwest.
Lynn Blair-Smith, '85 AnSci, and husband, Daryl, Winifred, have two daughters: Kayla Lynn, born May 26, 2000 and Cassandra Jo, born December 8, 2001. Lynn is a crop insurance adjuster and Daryl farms.
Deborah (Warp) Matus, '86 BuMg, Boise, Idaho, just celebrated her 10th year at Micron. She is enjoying Boise and soccer games with daughter, Sarah.
Graham Gilchrist, '87 Ag, Vegreville, Alberta, Canada, is president of the Alberta Institute of Agrologists.
Martha (Sitton) Powell, '88 Bus, '00 M, Prescott Valley, Ariz., teaches part-time at Yavapai Community College. She has one son who is a high school senior planning on pursuing a degree in digital media.
Patrick Behm, '89 ChE, Billings, won top salesman of the year 2001 for his company which has sales offices covering 12 states.
