Class Notes 1960s
M. Joan (Birtic) Atteberry, '62 EdHE, Portland, Ore., retired in June 2002 after 36 years of being a day care provider. She always had a "waiting" list and had many unhappy parents when she decided to retire. She was honored at a retirement social and was able to see many of the "kids" she had cared for over the years. Her husband, Michael, '64 IA, also retired at the same time. They traveled to Arizona and Mexico this past January. They would love to hear from other MSU grads that they went to school with.
Kerrie (Padgett) Cardon, '62 Arch, '78 Nurs, Bainbridge Island, Wash., worked in the medical/surgical department at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital in Bozeman before becoming a health care architect. She now works at Seattle-based Callison Architects. Cardon is part of a team that is creating new and innovative units for nurses in several other facilities in the Northwest.

She received her EdD in 1980 from Washington State University. She is currently teaching in an educational leadership program for WSU at its Vancouver campus. She served three four-year terms as a member/vice-chair of the Higher Education Coordinating Council. Members are appointed by the governor.

BG Bernie Watson, '66 CT, and Dr. Susan (Diteman) Watson, '70 GS, live at Ewa Beach, Hawaii. Bernie will retire in July from Hawaiian Airlines after 33 years of flying. He plans to do consulting and training. "Not ready to lay down on the beach just yet."
Charlotte (Decker) Knaub, '67 Nurs, Sun City Center, Fla., is semi-retired after 30 years in public health, 15 with international health agencies. She recently returned from Cairo, Egypt, where she administered smallpox vaccinations to U.S. Embassy staff. She is continuing her education in traumatology at USF. She has lived in Florida for the past three years, but visits son, JC, '90 F&TV, at Big Sky frequently. "Miss the fresh air but not the frigid climate!"
Robert Vaughan, PE, '67 CE, M'69, Yuma, Ariz., was the first executive director of the Yuma Metropolitan Planning Organization, a transportation planning agency. In that post he was the architect for many of the countywide road projects over 15 years. Now, a planned highway that public officials say will play a crucial role in the county's economic development has been named for him--the Robert Vaughan Expressway. The $86.7 million Area Service Highway is a 23-mile, four-lane highway.

Ken Curtis, '69 Bus, left Career Services at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in April to take a position at Kauai Community College at Lihue, on Hawaii's beautiful Garden Isle. In 1996 he retired as marketing instructor at Sentinel High School in Missoula.
