| Through
a gift of common stock, Edith Sanks has established the
Edith Sanks Nursing Scholarship. The gift of more than
$20,000 will fund an endowment to help recruit and retain
students for the College of Nursing. Though not an alumna,
Sanks was a nurse in London during World War II and still
feels a connection with the nursing profession. Her sister
was also a nurse. Sanks likes what she has seen in the
College of Nursing's students and faculty. |
| "I
went to a function a couple of years ago at the College
of Nursing and was very impressed with what they were
doing," says Sanks. |
|
|
| She also cites
the nationwide nursing shortage as a motivating factor for her gift.
"I just hope I can help some students get their start in nursing."

| College of Nursing
Interim Dean Jean Ballantyne, '70 Nurs, '80 M, sees the long-term
benefit of the Sanks gift. |
| "I cannot thank
Mrs. Sanks enough for her overwhelming and continued support of the
College of Nursing and its students," says Ballantyne. "Mrs. Sanks'
generosity will make a difference in the educational experience of
many students for years to come." |
| The first Sanks
Nursing Scholarship will be available for the 2005-2006 academic year.
