Class Notes 1970s
Wanda (Martin) Brown, '70 Nurs, graduated from the Univ. of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She now practices in an occupational health clinic as a nurse practitioner in St. Croix Falls, where she and husband Dave have lived for 33 years. Dave is an over-the-road trucking owner-operator. Son Bryan, a high school football, basketball and track coach, lives in Peoria, Ill. Son Brett, financial services, works for Sprint in Olathe, Kan., where he lives with wife Kelly, a dental hygienist.
Roberta (Ponke) Haugen, '73 BuEd, '97 M, and husband Jim live in Helena. After teaching 39-years at the high school and community college levels, Roberta is now teaching business and information technology classes for MSU-Billings Online University. Jim is executive director of the Montana High School Activities Association in Helena.
William Downs, '75 ChE, '83 M, was incorrectly listed as deceased in a recent Collegian. William writes: "To those who mourned the passing, I must say that I am definitely alive and living in Atlanta with my lovely wife, Juliet. As to the departed, it happened to be my father, William B. Downs, Sr., who attended MSC prior to WWII and began his love for skiing on Wraith Hill near Hedge's dormitory."
Jesse Aber, III, '75 Bus, '78 PSci, was asked in April 2003 to present at the National Academies of Science, Washington, D.C., for "A Policy Forum: Improving Responses to Climate Predictions," sponsored by the Atmospheric Policy Program of the American Meteorological Society and Columbia University. Jesse has served as staff for the Montana Governor's Drought Advisory Committee since 1992 and is employed by the Water Resources Division of the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation. In June he returned to Washington, D.C., to present at the first National Source Water Protection Conference sponsored by the EPA. Jesse has served as the facilitator and planner for the Upper Tenmile Watershed Steering Group since its inception in 1996. Upper Tenmile Creek is the City of Helena's primary source of municipal water and was designated as an EPA superfund project in 1999. Jesse is single and lives in Helena where he enjoys sailing, skiing, canoeing, fishing, hunting and local history.
M. Duane Nellis, '76 ESci, who has spent his entire career at land-grant universities, has been tapped to be the next provost at Kansas State University. Duane has been dean of the Eberly College of Arts and Sciences at West Virginia University since June 1997. He is currently living in Morgantown, W. Va.
Cheryl (Driver) Lenox, '77 Nurs, Billings, is working full time in the Cardiac Cath Lab at the Deaconess Billings Clinic
