"At last, what promises to be a splendid name for the various teams of Montana State has come to light. This name is 'Bobcats' and fills the bill in every aspect....The ideal name should have a touch of the western, a trace of the Aggie and should be related to the mountains. Now, just analyze bobcats. It fits, doesn't it? ...He does not depend on brute strength alone but upon headwork and cunning. Just try to softly warble that name, Bobcats. It can't be done ...you have to spit it out!" — The 75th History of MSU
