$10,000 to College of Agriculture
The College of Agriculture recently received a $10,000 gift from Robert W. "Bob" Duncan, '40 Ag Econ, of Lakeside. The gift goes toward the College of Agriculture's Honors Scholarship Fund, an endowed fund that provides general scholarship assistance to worthy students in the college. Duncan hopes to add to the gift in the coming years to establish a named endowment for the college. Named endowments require a gift of at least $15,000.
"Scholarships are so important anymore with the high cost of education today," says Duncan. "I felt like I wanted to do something to help someone who might not be able to make it to college otherwise."
According to Sandra Germann, '89 AgEd, '91 M, director of development for the College of Agriculture, making a scholarship gift is something that has been on Bob's mind for some time.
"Mr. Duncan visited with us a few years ago about wanting to set up a student scholarship when he was on campus for his 60-year class reunion," says Germann. "Given the four-year low in market returns and therefore the reduced number of scholarships awarded, gifts of scholarships, like Mr. Duncan's, are appreciated now more than ever. No matter how many scholarships the College of Ag is able to give out, there still remains a large number of worthy students, with need, who are left waiting in line. We greatly appreciate Mr. Duncan, and others like him, who have made generous gifts to scholarships."
