MSU legacy continues for the Rasmussen clan

Some people boast about their blue-blood background. Blake Rasmussen is more likely to talk about his blue and gold heritage.
The new student body president at Montana State University is the third generation on both sides of his family to graduate from or attend MSU.
His father, David, graduated in 1976 in agriculture business, and his mom, Danette (Lund), graduated in 1977 in civil engineering.
His grandfather, Jack Rasmussen, graduated in 1947 in agricultural economics, and his grandmother, Thelma (Stenmark) Rasmussen, graduated in 1972 in elementary education.
His grandfather, Stan Lund, graduated in 1952 in animal science, and his grandmother, Delores (Smith) Lund, attended MSU for three years during the 1950s, majoring in commercial science. His great-grandfather, George Lund, received an honorary doctorate from Montana State when he served on the Board of Regents many years ago.
"It's a good school,"Danette Rasmussen said from northeast Montana where the Rasmussens and Lunds have farmed and ranched for decades. "I think everybody probably feels it was a good choice and never regretted it. We were always proud to say we went there."
Thelma Rasmussen first attended MSU in the 1940s.
"Oh goodness. In those years, it was the place to go. Absolutely,"she said.
Blake, a 2001 graduate of Plentywood High School, has relatives who didn't attend MSU and said he felt no pressure to follow the path to Bozeman. "Not at all,"he said. Blake chose MSU because of its reputation in engineering and agriculture business. Now a senior, Blake is majoring in industrial engineering and expects to graduate in the fall of 2005.
"I made the right decision. At least I would like to think so,"Blake said from Las Vegas, where he has a summer internship with Pulte Homes.
Blake's presidency is just the latest in a string of accomplishments at MSU. He is one of seven members of the Septemviri honorary organization. He was named outstanding junior man. He has been president of the Interfraternity Council and is active in the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He is an Advocat and belongs to the Institute of Industrial Engineers.
As he carries out his presidency, Blake said he wants to see students present a unified front to the Montana Legislature. He hopes to make students more aware of the Associated Students of MSU, and he wants to make sure that students have a say in the Strand Union Building renovations.
"We are very proud of him,"said his grandmother, Delores Lund. "He's just a really fine fellow in our book."
