Class Notes 1940s, 1950s & 1960s
1940s
Bob Sando, '48 EPhys, Bellevue, Wash., worked for Boeing Airplane Co. for 35 years before retiring in 1985. Following high school graduation in 1938, he drove a Belgrade Bakery truck route, picked rocks from the site of the current airport, was a carpenter, NP extra gang employee until the Nazi army overran Holland, CCC enrollee and worked for the NYA for a while until his dad, Albert Sandbo, became a rural mail carrier and Bob was able to enroll at MSC. Bob joined the Navy in 1944. Bob would like to hear from other alumni from Belgrade. His e-mail is bobpat9@jps.net.
Gordon Lindner, '47 ME, and wife, Mary Jane (White) Lindner, '45 Nurs, Oak Ridge, Tenn., celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. The Lindners have three married children, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom were present for the celebration. Gordon and Mary Jane are both in good health and enjoy volunteering in several local organizations. They are planning on attending their 50th commencement reunion in May 2005.
1950s
Irvine (Ossie) Purdy, '52 Ind art/Engl, Mission Viejo, Calif., is retired from the California Dept. of Education and the U.S. Air Force. He continues to be active in the Reserve Officer's Association, the Military Officer's Association of America and Masonic activities.
Dean Wollaston, '54 Ind Engr, was not able to attend his 50th MSU reunion. He is still actively flying missions for NATO and the U.S. Navy under contract with a civilian firm.
Dale Andersen, '55 AppSci, '58 MEd, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, has been conferred the title of Emeritus Dean of Education by the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. He had served at UNLV for 19 years until his retirement in 2003. He subsequently served as an interim chair in the College of Education at Washington State University for one year and will be the interim dean of education at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif., in 2004-05. He is a past national president of the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education and of the Association of Colleges and Schools of Education.
1960s
Bill F. Little, '64 M, Bolivar, Mo., received an Honorary Professional degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla on May 15.
Robert Kolb, '63 EE, '65 PhD, was awarded the Presidential Rank Award of Meritorious Executive last fall. This award is the highest award a career federal employee can receive, and it recognizes outstanding leaders who consistently demonstrate strength, integrity, industry and a relentless commitment to public service. Kolb was the executive director of Spawar System Center in San Diego, Calif.
