From Alumni Association Director
Dear Alumni and Friends,
October. The mornings are crisp, afternoons warm, and evenings turn to darkness far too soon. The campus is bustling with activity. Hundreds of volunteers assisted with Move-In Day in August, an event in which faculty, staff, students and community members help our new freshmen move into their residence halls. I worked alongside the other volunteers during the morning and then enjoyed a unique experience in the afternoon. Rolf, my husband and MSU vice president, and I moved our youngest son, Anders, from home to the tenth floor of North Hedges. What a thrill to have him experience Montana State University as a student.
Before coming to the Alumni Association, I served as Director of Admissions. I have talked for years to students and families about the outstanding academic opportunities and the terrific campus life found at MSU. Now, I am seeing it firsthand as a mom. I'm impressed with what I've seen and heard, and I'm thrilled that my son has chosen Montana State University. I know that he is embarking on a terrific journey--one of discovery, challenge, new experiences and preparation for his life.
Recently, while signing Alumni Association membership letters, I couldn't help but notice the places our alumni call home. Alabama, Maine, California, Great Falls, Nevada, Fort Benton, Colorado, Glasgow, Florida and the list goes on. Just as this year's new freshmen, you took a huge step when you came to Bozeman and to Montana State University. Maybe, like some of the students we welcomed to campus, you were apprehensive about how you were going to handle the rigors of college life and being away from home. Now you've graduated, moved onto careers and have carried your university pride to all parts of the state, country and the world.
This issue of the Collegian is brimming with good news from Montana State University. As this school year unfolds, you'll continue to hear and read about faculty and student accomplishments and recognitions. MSU is an amazing place, a university that can make you proud. As we prepare this issue, our thoughts go to you, our alumni, for we want you to be informed and inspired about your university. The excitement that you felt when you were a student has passed to a new generation. You can be as proud of their aspirations as they are of your accomplishments.
Let us hear from you. E-mail me at jgroseth@montana.edu or drop by the office. The coffee pot is always on and there is a soft drink in the refrig. Thanks for staying in touch.
